Week One: The formation
We formed a band consisting of a drummer (Barrie Osbourne), a rhythm guitarist (Zach Griffiths), a lead guitarist (Ryan Lewis), a vocalist (Maisie-jo) and a bassist (me). We began to discuss what types of music we listen to and different songs we could play. This helped us to get to know each other a bit better and to find something in common.
Week Two: Practising
We were given the task to play at a little cafe on site in a couple of weeks time. we decided on three songs for this task- “Dakota” by Stereophonics, “You know I’m no good” by Amy Winehouse and our own original that we had created.
Week Three: Practising
Our main concern about this gig was that “You know I’m no good” wasn’t as well-practised as the other two songs we were going to perform. We discovered that we needed to make what we were playing together much more simple because it was sounding too busy for most of the song, despite the fat that what we was playing was good individually.
Week Four: The gig
Overall the gig went really well. We were all so proud of each other and everybody seemed to enjoy it. We got some really good feedback from people in the audience and from the teachers.
Week Five: Recording
We have started to record our “Funk jam” single by starting with the drums. We had to set up all of the relevant mics and then we had to soundcheck each individual part of the drums as well as levelling it so that we got the sound we wanted. We then recorded the drums all together for that actual recording. It took us a few attempts to record the drums because there were a few mistakes her and there that were too big to just edit out.
Week Six: Recording
After familiarising ourselves with our parts in our song, it was time for us to record the other instruments and the vocals as well as the harmonies. Next we need to mix it to pan out the different volumes and add ornaments such as the trumpets and the saxophones.
