live lounge proposal and plan

Positioning of the band members

The band members will be positioned in a sort of semi-circle or ‘V’ shape, all facing the camera. This will give us the opportunity and advantage to use more camera angles. It will also be easier to focus the camera on whoever is in the middle of the semi-circle. Everybody will be sat on stools apart from the vocalist- who will be in the centre- this will also benefit the singer as it means he will be able to project his voice more and make it easier to breathe whilst singing.

Cameras

Camera angles/positions will be similar to the plan drawn out below- this is just a few rough ideas put together in the band, however we are still discussing other possibilities.

Starting on an establishing shot from camera (A?) with a high angle that will move down to an eye-level shot as the intro is played. With the entrance of the vocals the shot will then cut to camera (B?) with a medium shot showing half of the band and angling towards the centre of the semicircle, that will slowly zoom for the duration of the first verse past each band member on that side ending in a close up shot of the vocalist: this will introduce half of the group. This will lead into camera (C?) which will introduce the band members on the opposite side using the same technique.

With the start of the short instrumental pre-chorus before the first chorus a cut back to camera (A?) with a medium shot of all the band that will use a dolly counter zoom to a close up of me for the start of the chorus. This will cut to camera (B?) for a full shot with a dutch tilt of the band from an angle that will go from low to high (or vice versa) for the duration of the rest of the chorus. For the instrumental there will be close ups of the instruments and a POV shot of the drummer, all done using multiple cameras.

For the next verse we will cut to camera (A?) with a medium shot panning from left to right (or vice versa) for the duration until the start of the final verse where a close up of me will zoom out into a full shot of the whole group, ready for the final instrumental/outro.

This will be a (as said) full shot of the group jamming away and will for the duration of the outro instrumental cut to different cameras with the same full shot but different angles to keep it interesting. at the fade out of the music (the very end) camera (A?) with a full shot at an eye level angle will tilt up to look at the ceiling.

Lighting

The light levels will be very low as our main source of light will come from a projector. The projector will be showing a video, throughout the live lounge performance, filmed by myself and Luke (our vocalist/ rhythm guitarist). The plan is that we will both film a walk in the woods, one during the day and the other at night. This footage will then be slowed down  and will have simple visual effects added such as changes in colour, tone or focus to make it interesting. There will also be fairy lights placed on the ground around our feet to give it more of an aesthetic feel.

Band members

As the song is quite a chilled out song the bands movements wont be too ecstatic but this doesn’t mean we wont be moving at all. By watching live performances with similar sounding music I can say that swaying and bobbing with the beat of the music seems to be as much as most people dance when performing but with a certain emotion that shows they are fully into the moment. Following this to an extent should be alright for the most part as the lighting means that we wont be totally visible, but with the instrumental and subsequent climax of the song we should have more movement.
